Veronika Latanovskaja

Artist and photographer

Received a degree in photography at the University of Portsmouth, Veronika's interest in this media is a way of expressing her inner feelings and concerns, and an agent that helps to try to understand the times we are living in. The passion had been passed to her with her grandfather - a self-taught photographer - who gave Veronika the foundation for this art by presenting an analogue camera, which she would take with her on long walks between hometown Maardu and the capital city Tallinn, located in Estonia. Roaming through the streets as a voyeur she would often find inspiration in the city occupied by post-Soviet ghosts, defining happiness in a hopeless place, and creating her own sense of aesthetic.

Through her work Veronika aims to show the allure of abnormality. In her opinion, everything that stands out of normal everyday life, that disturbs, makes a person think, wonder and gaze construct an alternative perspective which helps an individual escape the dominant culture. With her work, Veronika points out the problems of the society we live in and is currently exploring what it means to be a human in the world ruled by stereotypes.
